Who We Are

The Board of Trustees

EDA is currently governed by five trustees who are responsible for the overall running of the charity and ensuring that it meets its objectives, as registered with The Charity Commission. The trustees are also the directors of EDA, as it became a registered company (8633950) in 2014.

James Fairlie ACIB (Chair) having had a career in banking and education, James is also a trustee director of the EMLC Academy Trust.

Adrian Sutherland MBCS has over 55 years' experience in the IT industry, has held senior roles for large transformation programmes including the NHS, South Australia Health and Western Australia Health and has a strong background in health system integration and implementation.

Daniel Magson has run fundraising teams for 3 years for a variety of charities. With a specialism in Events and Community Fundraising Daniel is a board member for the Institute of Fundraising Special Interest Group. Daniel recovered from a 5 year battle with Bulimia over 3 years ago and hopes to bring both his professional and personal experience to help drive EDA.

Victoria Sumner

Karen MacKenzie is EDA's Treasurer. She is a qualified accountant and auditor with a global network of professional firms providing audit, tax and advisory services. Karen is also a school governor and volunteers with the Princes Trust Mosaic secondary schools' mentoring programme. 

EDA is currently looking to recruit new trustees who can bring professional skills and experience to the board. Patron

The Right Reverend James Jones KBE (former Lord Bishop of Liverpool) – an appointment made after his retirement and specifically due to his interest and continuing, outstanding public service. Bishop Jones advises the Home secretary on the family and previously led the Enquiry into the Hillsborough disaster.

Dr Salima Prodromou MBBS MRCGP DCH DRCOG. Having qualified in Medicine at UCL in 1993, Salima has worked in General Practice for many years and has both personal and professional insight into the care and management of eating disorders.

Chief Executive Officer

Jane Smith is a former head teacher, who joined EDA in 2004 having helped her own daughters through eating disorders and self-harm to recovery. She is the author of The Parent's Guide to Eating Disorders published in 2011, The Parent’s Guide to Self-harm published in 2012 by Lion Hudson and co-author with Dr Kate Middleton of “First Steps out of Eating Disorders” also published by Lion Hudson.
